5-MeO-MiPT (5-methoxy-N-methyl-N-isopropyltryptamine or Moxy) is classified within the broad family of compound known globally as the Tryptamines. Prior to a publication in 1985 describing its synthesis, there was no official record of its human use. However, since the advent of modern research chemical laboratories offering it for sale, there has been some anecdotal discussion of its use. 5-MeO-MiPT is technically a synthetic indole alkaloid belonging to the tryptamine class. This allows it to possess relative affinity and efficacy towards the serotonin receptors. Specifically the 5-HT2A receptor as a partial agonist. However, binding is highest for the 5-HT1A receptor with some further affinity towards the SERT (serotonin) and NET (noradrenaline) transporters. Some studies have also characterized its chemical efficacy involving the MAO pathway.
